My Toshiba laptop had frequent problems in the past with overheating. I set the books on both sides and leave enough space underneath for the movement, so the fans (located under the laptop) does not have to work so hard. This was uncomfortable and asked to be improved.

My solution was to build on a plate / stand for the laptop. You can sit comfortably on a desk or on my lap.

This is a terrific computer. I have not tried the DVD burner or lightscribe yet, but in terms of RAM, memory, and performance, this computer is top-notch. I have had the computer for 7 or 8 months and it has only freezed 2 or 3 times since I started using it (compared to my previous computers, where "freezing" was a weekly event). At first I was unhappy with Vista, but I have grown quite fond of it. The style is appealing, and Windows Defender isn't so bad once you turn off some of the more obnoxious features.

The computer is extremely fast. Programs and files open quickly, although it can be slow every now and then. The tower contains multiple USB ports as well as slots for memory cards (e.g., SD cards), and the extreme accessibility of these ports is a major bonus. My only gripe is that if you select "Safely remove hardware" option to remove an SD card or USB drive, the port is disconnected and you cannot read anything from it until you restart the computer (you have to select "Eject" option instead). There are also speaker and microphone ports in the front of the tower (in addition to the standard ports in the back), which is extremely convenient if you change headphones or microphones with frequency.

The best personal comment I can provide on this computer is its physical durability. I bought the computer online and had it shipped to my apartment. I was holding the box by the handle (because that's what handles are for, right?) while carrying it up the stairs, and the handle broke and the box went tumbling down the stairs. I was horrified. Amazingly enough, the computer worked perfectly and has continued to do so these 7-8 months I've owned it! Every once in a while it makes a buzzing noise that I think may have been caused by the tumble, but that's a small price to pay given that it fell down a flight of stairs. So, while the box the computer was shipped in may be unreliable, the computer itself is durable.

Looking for a computer for the front desk of a medical office, I was at first hesitant to buy this lesser name brand computer over competing brands like HP and Gateway. After carefully reviewing this computer, though, I realized that it was a great deal for the price and that it would fulfill all of the requirements I needed for the office.

A week after receiving and setting up the computer, I have to say that I am pleasantly surprised at how well it runs. Setup was simple, as was installation of Windows 7 (the PC comes with Windows XP, but I upgraded to Windows 7 Professional). The monitor is beautiful, and the all-in-one design saves a lot of space.

I am very happy with this eMachines product and will probably stick with this brand the next time I need to replace one of the computers.

I'd like to say upfront that the first computer they shipped was was real lemon. DOA in several ways. I was pretty upset and wrote a negative review, since retracted. I thought I'd been had and would never recoup. I was wrong. This company was on the phone the day the review hit. They made good on everything and it didn't cost me anything. They are very courteous and patient as I'm no computer whiz. I'm using the second computer they shipped and it's running beautifully. There was the small glitch that one power cord wasn't included, but a quick trip to Radio Shack solved that as I wanted to get up and running. The only other issue was the sound didn't work. They called and walked me through some ideas that didn't work out. However they overnight shippped a CD which took care of the problem perfectly. I'm sure dealing in reconditioned computers has it's glitches, but that I was one the reciving end of quite a few problems just had to be a fluke. I can tell anyone to go ahead and buy from this company. Their word is gold and this computer is like new, fast, smooth and quiet. I didn't think I could afford anything this versatile. Thanks!

The unit looks like it was well treated, no scratches or marks on the casing and it is a very quiet machine. In my opinion windows XP is better than Vista, not sure about windows 7.
